Karakunnam Marth Mariam church estd. in the 14th century

Founded in the 14th century, the Marth Mariam Jacobite Syrian church at Karakunnam is one of the oldest church in the Angamali diocese and is situated near to Muvattupuzha town in central Kerala. Over a period of time the church was remodeled many a times, the last of these reconstructions was in 1975. Aboon Mor Baselios Paulose II, the late lamented Catholicos of Malankara consecrated the renovated church on November 28. On March 4, 1982, Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I, the Holy Patriarch of Antioch and all the East came to this parish during his first Apostolic visit to Malankara.

The altars in the church are dedicated to St. Mary and the apostles St.Peter and St.Paul. The main festival of the church falls on November 28 (Vrishikam 15). Spiritual organizations functioning in the church are the Sunday School, Youth Association, Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam and the Evangelistic Association.

In the Kurisupally (chapel) located near the church there exists the Holy Relics of Mor Geevarghese Sahado (St.George), Mor Kuriakose Sahado and Mor Shemuel Kadiso, established on Vrishikam 20 in the year AD 1752. At puthuppady junction, located a few distance away from the Karakunnam church, there is a Shrine dedicated to Patriarch St. Elias III of Majanikkara owned by the church.
